Successful spatial planning in the sea, as well as on land, requires a common understanding about the distribution of valuable resources. In this context, knowledge of the spatial distribution of biodiversity and their associated ecological goods and services provides an important basis for sustainable planning of the Baltic Sea.
PREHAB has focussed on three main areas of research: (1) evaluation of methods and potential for predictive mapping of benthic habiats, (2) development of an approach for evaluating scenarios for human pressures and (3) coupling modelling to economic evaluation. In this web-resource, we provide scientifically based advice and recommendations in these areas, for local and regional stakeholders.
PREHAB evaluates how predictive modelling is best achieved and how it can be applied for a sustainable use of the Baltic Sea.
This web resource is produced by BONUS+ project PREHAB - "Spatial PREdiction of benthic HABitats in the Baltic Sea". The aim of our work has been to evaluate new tools for marine spatial planning and environmental impact assessment. We target authorities and policy-makers in the Baltic Sea region. More.
